risk

i should not have to risk my life
to protect the comfort of those
who risk the safety of children
for amusement & entertainment

i should not have to risk my life
to protect historical inaccuracies
that push a white agenda
to keep the top on top

i should not have to risk my life
sell my soul to a blue collar job
expensive college or minimum wage
to keep the "scum" on the bottom

poem for titan

Titan, since you were two,
You've been my old man.
Ten and two.
You're almost my teenager.
Is this how a parent feels?
He grows times seven.
I'll be burying my son-
three by five by six foot hole,
for my big baby,
when he has to go.

all dogs

I think it says something
that you two went together.
I sit on the porch looking across,
stare into green seas of cattle
I see her swimming,
and you waiting excited on the shore.
She was almost amphibian,
but she always came back for you.
She kept you company,
safe from cold and coyotes,
I know you couldn't stand
to leave her up there alone.
